In Brief: Diebold Adding Digital Video for Security

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold Inc., the automated teller machine maker, has signed a sales and marketing agreement with a company that sells products Diebold says will enhance the video security systems it sells with its products.

Diebold says it will install the RVC Digital Recorder produced by Lanex LLC, a vendor of digital video equipment in Columbia, Md. Diebold says this equipment is a good replacement for the videocassette recorder surveillance systems that are used to monitor the safety of ATMs and their surroundings.

Digital surveillance equipment can be programmed and accessed remotely, Diebold said. The systems are less labor-intensive and offer near-instantaneous tracking, it said.

Through the marketing alliance, Diebold said, it will get sales and installation support for the Lanex product and Lanex will gain access to its network of 3,000 sales and service employees.

"Because no single manufacturer can meet all of our customer requirements, this relationship gives Diebold an important competitive advantage by adding this premier, high-quality video recorder to our product line," said Richard Baggot, general manager of Diebold's electronic security group. "This agreement moves us closer to being a single, complete source of security products."
