In Brief: Fed Cancels Check Settlement Rule Changes

The Federal Reserve Board on Wednesday announced it is dropping plans to change its rules governing the presentment and settlement of checks.

After reviewing comments on ways to eliminate the legal disparities between Federal Reserve banks and private-sector banks, the Fed said it concluded that costs associated with reducing the disparities would outweigh any payments system efficiency gains.
