In Brief: Ferguson, 2 Treasury Nominees Confirmed

WASHINGTON — The Senate has confirmed Roger W. Ferguson Jr. to a second term as a Federal Reserve Board governor.

Mr. Ferguson was confirmed late Thursday on a 97-to-2 vote. The two senators from Kentucky, Republicans Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell, were the lone dissenters.

The Senate also confirmed New York Stock Exchange executive Sheila C. Bair as assistant Treasury secretary for financial institutions; Brian C. Roseboro, an American International Group executive and a former Federal Reserve Bank official, as assistant Treasury secretary for financial markets; and Stanford University professor Mark B. McClellan as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors.

Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., continues to block votes on four other key Treasury nominees.
