In Brief: Fixed-Rate Average Up a Notch to 6.77%

The average interest rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages rose to 6.77% in the latest week, from 6.75% the week before, Freddie Mac reported Thursday.

The average has remained below 7% for more than seven months. It reached a 31-year low of 6.49% in early October. The peak in 1998 was 7.22%, in late April.
