In Brief: HCC Melds Benefits Unit into Life Firm

HCC Insurance Holdings Inc. in Houston said Monday that it is reorganizing the operations of its life insurance and life and health underwriting agency subsidiaries.

HCC Benefits Corp., the company's underwriting agency subsidiary, consolidated its new and renewal business operations into the HCC Life Insurance Co. subsidiary on Jan. 1.

John Kane, the chief executive officer of HCC Benefits, also announced that he would retire as CEO on Feb. 28 but stay with the company as a consultant.

All HCC Benefits employees will be retained at HCC Life, where Craig J. Kelbel is to be the president and chief executive officer.
