In Brief: J.P. Morgan Appoints Tech Chief for a Unit

NEW YORK - J.P. Morgan & Co. has promoted Veronique Weill to head of global technology and operations for its asset management business.

Ms. Weill, 40, oversees worldwide technology - including back-office, Internet, and proprietary software functions. She was head of technology and operations for asset management in Europe.

She began her new duties May 10 and is based in New York. She reports to Ramon de Oliveira, chairman of J.P. Morgan Investment Management.

She succeeds John Schmidlin, who took over as chief operating officer of Morgan's private banking initiative in the United States.
