LONDON - Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. named Anthony Williams a managing director for its European investment banking division to expand the U.S. securities firm's corporate coverage of the United Kingdom.
Mr. Williams joins Lehman from Tate & Lyle PLC, the world's biggest starch and sweeteners company, where he had overseen corporate finance activities since early 1998. At Lehman, he reports to Bertil Rydevik, co-head of European investment banking.
Lehman has expanded its investment banking operations in the region as the pace of takeover activity in Europe rates among the fastest-growing worldwide. Last month, Lehman hired six bankers from Schroder Salomon Smith Barney for its Paris office and a team of eight from Robert Fleming Holdings in London.
