NEW YORK - M2card Inc. of New York is marketing a prepaid reloadable card that parents are meant to fund for their teenage children.
The Visa-branded M2card is free and can be obtained through www.M2card.com. As with other companies' cards for teens, the M2card allows parents to monitor their children's spending over the Internet. It also includes a loyalty program.
Some consumer advocates question the ethics of such cards for teenagers, seeing them as reaching into consumers' pockets at a younger age; proponents see the cards as a tool for learning how to manage money.
