In Brief: Malaysia Bank Buys Machines from NCR

LONDON - The ATM maker NCR Corp. will supply Maybank, the largest bank in Malaysia, with more than 200 advanced-function automated teller machines and cash management machines in a $7.9 million deal.

Maybank customers will be able to transfer funds, purchase airline tickets, and pay bills using the ATMs. NCR's deposit technology allows cash in mixed denominations to be sorted and credited in real time.

NCR, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, said the Maybank deal is part of a surge in demand for financial self-service across Southeast Asia. Maybank currently has 796 ATMs and 22 cash deposit machines. Maybank has self-service branches, branded e-Kawanku, at shopping centers and other off-site locations.
