In Brief: Manulife Hires Merrill Veteran

TORONTO - Manulife Financial Corp. has named the former national sales director of Merrill Lynch & Co.'s insurance group as the managing director of its own recently created national accounts department.

Stanley Peterson joined Manulife on May 1. His department is meant to provide large U.S. broker-dealers and the companies that own them with a single access point for information on Manulife's insurance, investment, and pension products.

Mr. Peterson retired from Merrill Lynch in November after about 15 years there, starting as an estate planning specialist. Earlier he worked at New York Life.
