In Brief: MasterCard Teams With Hispanic Group

WASHINGTON - MasterCard International has announced an initiative with the League of United Latin American Citizens to develop financial management educational programs.

MasterCard said it will work with the league to help leaders in the Latino inform their constituents about a variety of issues such as budgeting and establishing a credit history.

Hispanic-Americans' disposable income has more than doubled in the last 10 years and is supposed to do the same in the next 10 years.

MasterCard hopes to tap the league's "vast knowledge of the needs of Latinos in the United States and make the most of the significant influence this group has with the community," said Catherine Cummings, vice president for consumer affairs at the card association.
