In Brief: Merging Ohio Firms Pick Unizan Name

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — BancFirst Ohio Corp. and UNB Corp. in Canton, Ohio, have finally settled on a name for their newly formed holding company.

Unizan Financial Corp. would be the name of the $3.5 billion-asset company created after the two companies complete their $214 million merger of equals. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter. The subsidiaries of the two companies, National Bank of Zanesville and United National Bank and Trust Co., would become Unizan Bank.

Gary N. Fields, the president and chief executive officer of $1.5 billion-asset BancFirst, who would become chairman of the new company, said that the Unizan name represents the compatibility of the two organizations, since it was created by combining syllables from each of the banks’ names.
