In Brief: MetLife Web Service To Advise Retirees

PALO ALTO, Calif. - MetLife Resources has formed a partnership with Financial Engines Inc. of Palo Alto to offer retirement advice online.

The subsidiary of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. is to supply investment advice on MetLife Resources' Web site to participants in health-care, education, and not-for-profit retirement plans.

Visitors will be able to monitor their investments and use financial calculators to determine how and whether they can reach their retirement goals.

Stephen Foster, the national marketing director and head of institutional sales at MetLife Resources, said the service is the company's first for clients in not-for-profit retirement plans.

Financial Engines, founded by Nobel Prize-winning economist Bill Sharpe, supplies independent investment consulting for some of the largest pension plans in the United States.
