In Brief: Nationwide Appoints Disability Unit Head

Nationwide Financial Inc. said Monday that it had promoted Bill Evans to president of its GatesMcDonald disability management subsidiary and expanded the role of Joe San Filippo as president of Nationwide Health Plans.

Mr. Evans, formerly the vice president of finance and strategic business planning at GatesMcDonald, is now to focus its efforts on large companies. He joined Nationwide in 2000.

Mr. San Filippo, the president of Nationwide Health Plans in Columbus, Ohio, is to focus on small companies. His new responsibilities are to include managing GatesMcDonald's operations in states where government is the exclusive provider of workers' compensation coverage.

Nationwide Health Plans sells individual and group health insurance products in Ohio and California and special risk products nationally. Mr. San Filippo has been president of Nationwide Health Plans since 1998.
