In Brief: S.C. Bank Hires Fleet Exec as Controller

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - First National Corp. hired John L. Phillips, former production controller for Fleet mortgage group in Columbia, S.C., as senior vice president and controller, the company said Tuesday.

Mr. Phillips "will be involved in structuring our financial reporting systems and procedures to enhance internal financial management and posture for future growth," Richard C. Mathis, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the corporation said.

The newly named executive has been treasurer and controller of First Union National Bank of Florida, and senior audit manager with Coopers & Lybrand, CPAs in Florida.

First National Corp., with assets of $970 million, is the holding company for First National Bank in Orangeburg, National Bank of York County, Florence County National Bank, and CreditSouth Financial Services Corp.
