In Brief: Total System to Process 5.4M Nordstrom Cards

Total System Services Inc. said it has converted Nordstrom Inc.'s 5.4 million private-label credit cards to its TS2 processing system.

Total System said the addition of the accounts on the books of Nordstrom National Credit Bank of Scottsdale, Ariz., makes it "the nation's largest processor of private-label cards." Other Total System retailing clients include Sears, Roebuck and Co. (with 64 million cards) and Canadian Tire (six million).

"The conversion of Nordstrom is a crowning achievement for Total System," said Philip W. Tomlinson, president of the processing company, a subsidiary of Synovus Financial Corp., also of Columbus.

Mr. Tomlinson said the TS2 platform is "tailored for the unique requirements of the retail world." Among other features, it allows retailers to accept and credit instant payments on accounts at the point of sale, and offer multiple account numbers for one account.
