In Brief: Transpoint in Australian Presentment Deal

Transpoint LLC has signed an agreement to develop and implement an electronic bill presentment service for the Australian postal system.

Consumers would receive and pay bills electronically through the postal service's Web site.

Transpoint, a joint venture of Microsoft Corp., First Data Corp., and Citigroup Inc., said Australian Postal Corp. will begin testing the service with a limited number of billing companies and customers as early as the second quarter. Transpoint said it plans to have the service available to the Australian public in the second half of 2000.

Transpoint has gotten involved in one other electronic bill presentment system outside the United States as software provider to e-route, a joint venture of six major financial institutions in Canada.
