UnumProvident in Chattanooga, Tenn., said Tuesday that it has enhanced its critical illness and individual short-term disability insurance products.
The critical illness policy now includes an alternative of base or enhanced coverage. Base coverage includes a benefit for heart attack, stroke, permanent paralysis, kidney failure, and organ transplant or coronary artery bypass surgery. Enhanced coverage includes everything listed in the base plan, plus an additional benefit for a cancer diagnosis.
The enhancements include increased benefit amounts for covered children, and, for eligible employee groups, $10,000 of coverage is guaranteed without a medical exam.
A new five-year benefit period leads the list of enhancements of the company's individual short-term disability coverage, which also adds an optional rider covering mental illness. The product also adopts an industry-based rate structure and employs a streamlined underwriting process, making the sale and setup of such coverage easier for brokers.
