He succeeded Steve Van Wyk, who has been named the parent company's head of operations and information technology banking, the Dutch firm said Monday.

Mr. Steinike, 49, will manage ING's technology strategy and initiatives throughout the Americas.

He was the chief development officer for Coca-Cola Co., and its CIO for North America. He also spent 26 years in various technology positions at General Electric Co.

Tom McInerney, a member of ING's board and the chairman of its U.S. unit, said in a press release that Mr. Steinike "has an impressive track record of supporting technology infrastructure and finding revenue opportunities through technology, which is especially important to support our growth and innovation strategy."

Last week ING's U.S. Internet banking arm, ING Bank FSB of Wilmington, Del., announced that it would pay $220 million to purchase the Bellevue, Wash., online brokerage ShareBuilder Corp.
