ING Polish Unit Hires Gemalto

ING Group's Polish banking unit has agreed to use Gemalto NV card production and management services.

Gemalto, of Amsterdam, said Thursday that it will manufacture cards that adhere to the Europay, MasterCard, Visa security standard for ING Bank Slaski at its Tczew, Poland, site. It will provide services such as managing blank card stocks, personalization, fulfillment, and same-day turnaround for emergency card requests. The vendor will also offer value-added services, including personalized cards.

ING Bank Slaski, of Katowice, began issuing EMV-compliant debit cards in 2007.

Philippe Cambriel, the executive vice president of Gemalto's secure transaction business unit, said the migration to EMV cards is "booming" in Poland. His company is helping "ING Bank Slaski in its transition to chip-based cards by supplying it with advanced, value-added services that will allow it to focus on its core business," he said in a press release.
