Intercept Acquiring Tenn. Data Processor

NORCROSS, Ga. - Intercept Group Inc. plans to acquire Advanced Computer Enterprises Inc., a Maryville, Tenn., data processor.

Terms of their deal, announced Wednesday, were not disclosed.

Intercept offers core data processing, electronic funds transfer processing, check imaging, and data communications management. It also offers Internet banking products and services through its unit, Netzee Inc.

Advanced Computer Enterprises offers a similar set of services, including core data processing, check processing, and check imaging services. It has about 20 community financial institution customers in Tennessee.

Intercept said the deal for Advanced Computer Enterprises is intended to strengthen its presence in Tennessee.

In June 1999 Intercept announced a deal for L.E. Vickers & Associates of Cookeville, Tenn., which also was intended to bolster the company's presence in the Southeast. In May Intercept said it would acquire the debit card program of Bankers Bank of Atlanta. In June it agreed to buy TellerPlus, an online teller platform system, from CRI Financial Systems Inc.
