Iowa Bank Gets Vormetric Shield

Meta Financial Group Inc. is using encryption technology from Vormetric Inc. to protect customers' personal data stored on its computers.

The Santa Clara, Calif., security software vendor said Tuesday that the Storm Lake, Iowa, holding company, has installed its Vormetric Data Security application at its MetaBank unit, which issues prepaid cards that are sold by several marketers.

MetaBank said the encryption software complies with the Payment Card Industry data security standard, which defines the measures banks and retailers must take to safeguard customer data. The banking company said it chose Vormetric for its single application that could be used to encrypt data on all its SQL servers.

"As opposed to the complexity of implementing point encryption products, Vormetric Data Security provides us with a consistent and centrally manageable security model across our entire infrastructure," Troy Larsen, MetaBank's vice president for information systems, said in a Vormetric press release.
