Karen Krebsbach, Former Executive Editor at U.S. Banker, Dies at 52

Karen Krebsbach, a reporter and editor who covered banking, investment and international business and managed a number of publications that won awards for editorial and design excellence, died at Calvary Hospital in New York City on Sunday, July 11. She was 52.

The cause was complications of breast cancer, according to Jennifer Krebsbach, her sister-in-law. A resident of New York City since 1997, Krebsbach retired from her position as executive editor/international editor at U.S. Banker in 2008.

She joined U.S. Banker in 2002 as international editor and was promoted to executive editor of the magazine in 2004. In 2005, she was recognized by the American Society of Business Publication Editors with a National Gold Award for "The Inside Track," her regularly featured column covering the players and policies that set the regulatory agenda for the financial sector.

Prior to U.S. Banker, she worked in senior editorial roles with the Foreign Service Journal and Bank Investment Marketing. She was a reporter with Venezuela-based The Daily Journal, and had worked on the copy desks of The Boston Globe as well as the Asian and European editions of The Wall Street Journal. She began her career at The Middlesex News in Framingham, Mass.

A native of Fond du Lac, Wisc., Ms. Krebsbach graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with bachelor's degrees in English and journalism.

She is survived by her father, Orville Krebsbach, of Fond du Lac; brother Keith and sister-in-law, Pam, also of Fond du Lac; sister Kim Krebsbach, of Orlando, Fla.; brother Kevin, sister-in-law Jennifer and two nephews, Andrew and Will, of West Hartford, Conn.; and brother Kurt, sister-in-law Elva and nephew, Sebastian, and niece, Aurora, of Rosemount, Minn..

A Memorial Service will be held in Manhattan on Friday, July 23, at 1 p.m. at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth Seton at Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, 7 State St. A reception will follow the service at the same location.

On Saturday, July 31, at 11 a.m., a Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Malone, Wisc.
