Katz Gets More Licensing Agreements

Four more financial companies have agreed to license a patent portfolio from Ronald A. Katz Technology Licensing LP of Los Angeles covering interactive voice systems.

The licensing company announced nonexclusive deals Wednesday with Countrywide Financial Corp., Zions Bancorp., United National Corp. of Sioux Falls, S.D., and ING North America Insurance Corp. but did not provide the value of the contracts.

Katz owns more than 50 patents covering the operation of automated call centers and has a long history of filing patent-infringement lawsuits to protect its technology.

More than 150 companies have reached similar licensing agreements, including American Express Co., Bank of America Corp.M&T Bank Corp., and Wells Fargo & Co.

Also Wednesday, Katz announced licensing deals with Supervalu Inc., Consolidated Edison Inc., Northeast Utilities Service Co., Ceridian Corp., Ford Motor Co., and Ford Motor Credit Co.
