BUFFALO -- Marine Midland Banks Inc. named Ian M. Burnett its chief banking officer, effective Nov. 2.
Mr. Burnett has been chief officer for the Singapore operations of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp., the largest foreign bank in Singapore, since 1989.
He replaces Alan J. Heuer, who has resigned, and will report to John R.H. Bond, Marine Midland's president and chief executive officer. Hongkong Bank, like Marine Midland, is owned by HSBC Holdings PLC, London.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
