Hoping to stimulate card sales volume and promote its prepaid offerings, MasterCard Inc. is teaming with Expedia Inc. for a summer vacation promotion dangling free gas.
Consumers who use a MasterCard payment card to book a two-night hotel stay through Expedia.com between June 6 and July 4 will receive a $25 MasterCard prepaid gas card in the promotion. Those who book three or more nights will receive a $50 prepaid gas card. Marriott International Inc. hotels are excluded from the promotion.
According to recent consumer research, nearly half of all Americans plan to stay close to home this summer, Rob Sheets, MasterCard group head of merchant relationships and cobrand management, said in a press release Thursday.
This promotion is aimed at helping those consumers "maximize their vacation dollars," he said.
