MasterCard Inc. has introduced an interactive financial management tool to help consumers monitor spending on their debit cards.
Banks that issue MasterCard debit cards can choose to offer the MasterCard Money Manager tool through their online banking sites. Users can review debit transactions, grouped by merchant category, and create custom categories to identify spending patterns.
The tool, announced Thursday, does not monitor payments made by check or other noncard transactions, a spokeswoman said.
Security Service Federal Credit Union is the first company to offer MasterCard Money Manager.
"In today's economic environment and as we approach the start of the holiday shopping season, we're excited to be able to offer our members more control and greater financial management capabilities," Keith Sultemeier, an executive vice president and chief financial officer of Security Service, said in MasterCard's press release.
