Chris McCarthy has joined Merrill Lynch & Co. as a managing director of the public finance group yesterday, a Merrill spokesman said.
McCarthy, 43, will lead Merrill's tax-exempt money market origination effort. He will report to Samuel B. Corliss Jr., a managing director of the derivative products group, and to Joseph H. Moglia, a managing director of municipal markets capital commitment and risk management.
McCarthy, along with Robert K. Jacobsen, another managing director, will co-head the public finance department's corporate-related group.
Previously, McCarthy was product manager of the short-term group at Goldman Sachs & Co. He held the position since 1981 and had spent about 20 years working for the investment bank.
