MetroCorp in Houston Names George Lee Co-Chairman

The president and chief executive of MetroCorp Bancshares (MCBI) in Houston will be taking on an expanded role.

George Lee has been named the co-chairman of the holding company and its Texas banking subsidiary, MetroBank, the company said Friday. Lee already was president and CEO of both MetroCorp and MetroBank, as well as the chairman of MetroCorp's California banking subsidiary, Metro United Bank.

Company founder Don Wang will remain co-chairman of MetroCorp and MetroBank, Lee told American Banker. Wang, who had been the full chairman, has decided to back off of day-to-day duties, Lee said.

Lee has been a member of the holding company board since 1999.

MetroCorp is the parent of MetroBank in Houston, with $1.1 billion and 14 Texas branches, and Metro United Bank in San Diego, with $396 million in assets and six California branches.
