Michigan's Independent picks CEO.

IONIA, Mich. - Independent Bank Corp. named Charles Van Loan president and chief executive officer, succeeding Loren Adgate.

Mr. Adgate will remain chairman of the board until April.

Mr. Van Loan had been president of the corporation's lead bank, Independent Bank in Ionia, since 1987.

The holding company, with about $400 million in assets, also owns banks in Rockford and Leslie. The three units operate 26 banking offices in western and central Michigan.

Mr. Van Loan, a former South Dakota banker, joined First Security Bank, an Independent Bank predecessor, in 1980 as personnel officer. He became corporate chief operating officer last January.
