Mint Site Adds Texting Service

Mint Software Inc. is offering users of its financial management Web site the ability to use text messages to check their balances at linked bank accounts.

The San Francisco company announced the feature on its blog last week.

The Mint site aggregates users' account balances and spending activity to help them keep track of their finances. They can now send a text message to Mint, which will respond immediately with the balances of all the enrolled accounts, from either the prior day or the last time the user logged in to Mint's Web site, whichever is more recent.

People can also choose to receive text-message alerts for a variety of user-defined events. For example, Mint can notify them when a bill is due, when they are approaching the credit limit on a credit card, or even if they have exceeded the budget they created for holiday gift purchases.
