Major bank stocks were mostly lower on Monday. Besides Wells Fargo, the big decliners were J.P. Morgan & Co., off $1.125 to $72.875, and Barnett Banks Inc., off $$1.375 to $41.625. MBNA Corp., the credit card issuing bank, was down $2.25 to $35.
Also slipping were Citicorp, down 50 cents to $36.125; Bank of New York, down 62.5 cents to $54.25; and NationsBank Corp., down 25 cents to $48.625.
On the other side, First Chicago Corp. was up 75 cents to $45.75 and Fleet Financial Corp. was up 25 cents to $32.125.
