Thomson Financial has named Eleanor Dixson-Hobbs publisher of American Banker.
Ms. Dixson-Hobbs is the first woman to head the 165-year-old daily newspaper, as well as the first African-American in the role. She was promoted from associate group publisher.
As publisher Ms. Dixson-Hobbs will be responsible for managing all aspects of American Banker and its affiliated online service, americanbanker.com. She will also be responsible for the full operations of FutureBanker, a monthly magazine also published by Thomson.
Before joining American Banker, Ms. Dixson-Hobbs was industry director for technology at Institutional Investor. Before that she was at CMP Media, where she sold advertising for Computer Reseller News and was manager of the Client/Server Conference & Expo. She also spent four years in advertising sales at The Wall Street Journal.
The previous publisher of American Banker, Thomas F. Curtin, resigned last month.
