Who's the New Guy?

At an FTSE-listed financial firm, a man recently entered an office without being challenged, based himself in a third floor meeting room, and worked there for several days - gaining access to data room, employee passwords, IT and telecom network. Problem was, the worker - who was there long enough to literally be on a friendly "first name basis" with security guards - didn't work for the bank, but for Siemens, who sent the man to the firm as part of a social engineering experiment. The firm's goal was a reminder that despite an ample IT security deployment, it's of little use without proper vetting and education.

ANZ Executive's a Twitter Quitter

A message of 140 characters isn't long, but even for a high-level exec it's enough to say you're leaving your job. Brian Hartzer, CEO of ANZ's Australian division, in May announced his resignation on Twitter. In farewell Tweet, Hartzer said "Folks, this is my last tweet as I've resigned to pursue an overseas opportunity. Thanks for your continued support for ANZ. All the best."

ATM Skimmers Hit NYC

The NYPD is looking for a gang of crooks who allegedly used ATM skimming technology to steal account details and PINs before withdrawing a half million dollars. The group "cloned" ATMs cards by installed skimming devices and cameras on ATMs at two branches of Sovereign Bank in Staten Island, nabbing account details from mag-strip cards, with the cameras recording PINs.
