Union Bank of Nigeria PLC has agreed to buy 120 automated teller machines from Diebold Inc.
The North Canton, Ohio, ATM company said Wednesday that the Lagos banking company plans to install its high-end Opteva 520 units in branches around the West African country.
Union Bank has more than 400 branches in Nigeria and expects the ATMs to help it expand into new cities, including some in remote parts of the country.
Cliff Meinhardt, a Diebold vice president and the general manager for Central Europe, said in a press release that installing the "means that, for the first time in Nigeria, the ATM won't just be a cash dispenser."
