When executives at Centier Bank took note of the trend of companies opening on-site clinics, they decided to up the ante. Many companies limit access to clinics to full-time employees enrolled in their corporate medical plans, but Centier opened the doors to all employees, whether they were on the bank's insurance or not. The first clinic took place in April at the bank's headquarters in Merrillville, Ind., followed by a second clinic in nearby Porter County. Employees and their families enjoy free services ranging from lab work and prescriptions, to physician visits lasting 40 minutes or more.

Centier, founded in 1895, is a family-owned bank operating 45 branches in Indiana and committed to a pledge that it is not for sale. The bank also is dedicated to helping associates balance the demands of their work and personal lives. For example, reduced schedules are available to employees who want to cut back on their hours while retaining full-time benefits. In addition, the bank pays for a consultant to meet with employees who need suggestions or resources for the care of elderly relatives.
