WASHINGTON - The Office of Thrift Supervision has appointed five senior staff members to hear complaints about examinations.

The OTS announced its appeals policy on Friday. It followed similar announcements from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and Federal Reserve Board and is part of the Clinton administration's attempt to ease the credit crunch by telling regulators to lighten up.

Reviewing Bank Exams

The new examination oversight managers will review reports of examinations for content, perspective, tone, uniformity, and conformance with national policy and guidelines, the OTS said

They will visit thrifts regularly to discuss exam procedures and solicit ideas for improving the process, the OTS said.

The oversight managers for the different regions are: Ralph Gridley, Northeast; Timothy T. Ward, Southeast; Jerry W. Stewart and John T. Lawrence, Central; James W. Smith and Dorothy Van Cleve. Midwest: and Ron Lake. West.
