PayPal Sets $1.6M Ad Blitz in Britain

PayPal Inc. is trying to get more U.K. consumers to use its service for online purchases.

The company's U.K. unit announced last week what it called "the largest campaign PayPal has ever run" there. The $1.6 million drive will run through Dec. 20 and will include billboard, radio, online and print advertisements.

PayPal, which has more than 22 million users in the United Kingdom, said it wants to promote its service not just for purchases made through its parent company, the Internet auction site eBay Inc., but also for other online transactions.

"Not everyone realizes that the security and simplicity of PayPal is available on thousands of other Web sites, including those of many of Britain's biggest brands," Mark Hodson, PayPal U.K.'s marketing director, said in a press release.
