Pennsylvania Senate Confirms New Banking Commissioner

The Pennsylvania Senate has unanimously confirmed James Biery as a commissioner of the Pennsylvania Banking and Securities Commission.

Biery succeeds Steve Irwin, who joined the Pennsylvania Securities Commission in 2006 and continued to serve after the agency merged with the Department of Banking in 2012.

The Pennsylvania Banking and Securities Commission consists of five commissioners and Chairman Jerry Pappert, who is a former Pennsylvania Attorney General.

Biery retired as president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association last year. He has proven his leadership abilities throughout his 37-year long career with the association, Gov. Tom Corbett said in a press release.

Biery has also chaired the State Association Division of the American Bankers Association and the Corbett Administration's transition team for the department of banking.

He continues to serve on the board of DNB Financial (DNBF) in Downingtown, Pa.
