People's of Connecticut Designates an Heir Apparent

Bridgeport, Conn.-based People's Bank said Thursday that it had named executive vice president James P. Biggs to succeed chairman, chief executive officer, and president David E.A. Carson.

Mr. Biggs, 57, will take over the job in stages, beginning with the presidency on Jan. 1. He will also hold the title of chief operating officer. Mr. Carson will remain CEO until Jan. 1, 1999, and chairman until Dec. 31 of the same year.

Mr. Biggs is currently in charge of marketing and regional banking. He also serves on the thrift's board of directors. Mr. Biggs has spent his entire 33-year career at People's, working in nearly every area of the company.
