Polish Bank Picks Metavante

Bank Zachodni WBK of Poland is using contactless payment card software from Metavante Technologies Inc.

The Milwaukee banking technology vendor said Bank Zachodni, of Wroclaw, has installed its Cortex processing software to offer the first contactless prepaid cards in Poland.

The $14 billion-asset banking company is currently offering contactless MasterCard Inc. cards and plans to introduce prepaid cards using the Visa Inc. brand. It said it is targeting the reloadable cards to the unbanked and hopes to boost its transaction volume and expand the use of payment cards in Central and Eastern Europe.

Bank Zachodni has used Metavante's Cortex software since 1996 for other payment services, including card issuing.
