Rabobank Will Use Unisys for Processing

The Dutch financial company Rabobank Group has hired Unisys Corp. to overhaul its systems for processing foreign checks.

Unisys said Thursday that Rabobank plans to install the Quantum NDP 200 high-speed scanners to handle checks that originate outside the Netherlands. Rabobank also plans to shift its processing to servers that use Microsoft Corp.'s .Net software.

The overhaul is expected to increase efficiency and lower costs, Unisys said.

Even though the Netherlands began moving "away from checks years ago, foreign checks remain a significant part of Rabobank's transactions," Bart Steukers, Unisys' managing partner for global industries in continental Europe, said in a press release. The Unisys system will help Rabobank "adapt to future changes as check usage continues to decline globally and banking evolves more to a paperless environment."
