Recognition International Inc., Dallas, Texas, released imaging software to support a database management system from Oracle. The software provides optical disk and juke-box management capabilities for Oracle database systems.
The system is comprised of two products, XDP StorageManager software, and a new product, XDP ObjectServer software. The Object software works on a Unix platform to store and retrieve large data objects, such as image and other multimedia data types on magnetic or optical media. The StorageManager handles data storage with optical media such as access, labeling, and scheduling.
A general production release is planned for early 1995 on a Unix platform, supporting both Microsoft Windows and Sun Solaris clients. The XDP Object Server Software is being released at a price of $795 per concurrent user. XDP StorageManager software is currently available on several Unix platforms.
