About 140 of the state's banks have joined a program sponsored by the state and the Massachusetts Bankers Association to train bank employees in preventing financial abuse of the elderly.

The program will train employees to spot warning signs of abuse, and will strengthen reporting procedures and contacts with the appropriate authorities.
