S1 Wins Deal with Venezuelan Bank

Banco Occidental de Descuento in Maracaibo, Venezuela, plans to create a comprehensive payments system using several applications from S1 Corp.'s Postilion unit.

The Norcross, Ga., banking technology vendor said last week that Banco Occidental would use its automated teller machine, point of sale, card management, and payment switching software.

Banco Occidental said it selected Postilion because the software offered lower total costs and could scale as the company expands. Rodolfo Rojas, its vice president of technology, said in S1's announcement, "Our vision is to operate a true multichannel platform, managing not only our electronic banking network, ATMs, and POS terminals, but also offering other services in the future, such as Internet, voice, and mobile banking."

Banco Occidental is the fifth-largest banking company in Venezuela, with assets of more than $13 billion.
