Short Takes: Customer Data System For 1st Michigan Unit

Investment representatives in the 90 branches of First Michigan Bank Corp. are getting on the same page with a new client management system.

To gather all data on purchases of securities, mutual funds, and annuities, the Holland, Mich.-based FMB Investment Services Inc. recently selected a computer system developed by EAI Information Systems Inc. of Beaverton, Ore.

Ultimately, information about FMB Investment Services' customers will be integrated with that of the bank's traditional deposits and lending customers.

"It will allow us to know which customers have which products," said Terry Swenson, president of FMB Investment Services. "The technology will facilitate better service and build relationships."

Mr. Swenson added that the system could eventually house a financial planning program to assist investment representatives.

Previously, FMB Investment Services cleared trades with National Financial and could easily access all client information. After a restructuring this year, FMB Investment Services clears trades directly with respective mutual fund and insurance companies and needed the EAI system to compile all data.
