Smart Bytes: Forum Sets Meeting On Payments' Future

The History of Money, the Future of Payments has been adopted as the theme of the Smart Card Forum's fourth annual meeting, to be held Sept. 16- 17 in the San Francisco Hilton and Towers.

The forum is expecting 500 people from the card technology industry to attend. Discussions will cover smart card applications, including payments, home banking, relationship banking, network security, remote data access, and cellular phone security.

Walter Wriston, former chairman of Citicorp, will deliver the keynote address Sept. 16.

Representatives of First Union Corp., Wells Fargo & Co., Bank of Montreal, and a MasterCard Cash participant from Australia will give updates on their respective smart card trials.

The second day, open only to forum members, will include a panel on payment services with Janet Hartung, senior vice president of Wells Fargo; Marlee Laks, technology leader at American Express Co.; Tim Stewart, executive vice president, Mondex International; John Tunstall, vice president, MasterCard International; and Bette Wasserman, a vice president at BankAmerica Corp.'s Bank of America.
