The Columbus, Ga., processor, which announced the deal last week, also said it would provide related payment services for Standard Bank, one of South Africa's "big four" full-service banking companies.

Standard Bank has operations in 18 countries in Africa and 20 countries elsewhere, including Europe, the Americas, and Asia. It has 712 branches in South Africa and 239 throughout the rest of Africa.

"TSYS' technologies provide the versatility and scalability Standard Bank needed to continue to grow our presence in Africa," Barry Fergus, Standard Bank's card director for Africa, said in a press release from the vendor.
