State Street (STT) is going back to school through a new program with the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The Boston company will hire 100 students part time to perform certain back-office jobs and support business lines across the company, State Street said Thursday. The students will be based in a new office in Hadley, Mass., beginning this fall. The program is open to sophomores through seniors.
The program expands the work that State Street does with the University of Massachusetts system. In 2005, the company launched the State Street Scholars Program, a nine-month internship program for students at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
"We're pleased to welcome these students … and provide them with a unique opportunity to gain 'real-world' work experience in the financial services industry," Alison Quirk, chief human resources and citizenship officer at State Street, said in a news release. "As one of the largest employers in Massachusetts, State Street has a long-standing history of collaborating with many universities around Boston to help foster the state's economic development and expand the students' readiness to enter the work force."
