STS unveils Windows program to read multiplatforms.

STS Systems Inc., a Montreal-based supplier of turnkey computer systems, introduced Windows-based software that allows users to view and manipulate reports from mainframe computers and other systems on personal computers.

It is designed for companies making the transition to client-server computing. It can be installed at any stage of the transition process and be used as a tool for viewing reports from databases such as Oracle and Sybase.

Users can see reports on-line and create personalized reports. A template for each report, using defining data sorting criteria, is created. Each time a report is downloaded, the data is indexed and then sent to the end user. Query and data manipulation functions allow users to search through and extract whatever data they need, annotate it, print it, and export it to other applications such as spreadsheets. An annotation features lets users insert notes or comments.

It consists of three modules. The editor allows the user to create a template for each report. The translator automatically indexes the data, and the reader allows the user to view and manipulate a report either by page, section, or custom criteria.

The retail price is $995. Additional readers are priced from $325 to $99, based on volume.
